Feeding tips for pork farming
Image

Pigs are non-ruminants, with a simpler digestive system than sheep, cattle and horses. Pigs will not graze exclusively on pasture, in the way cattle, sheep or horses do, but under some farming practices, with the right plant species, grazing can be significant. Protein however is always a particularly important component in pig food. Crude fibre should not exceed 5% for large pigs and around 3% for smaller pigs.

As ruminants; cattle can digest a greater quantity of fibre than non ruminants; which in turn affects the type of feed which is preferable for them.

There are ten assignments, which are submitted to your tutor for marking and feedback. You can also contact your tutor with any questions throughout the course. Farm animals only grow to their full potential if they are fed well. Being 'well fed' does not mean being fed a large quantity. An animal that is fed well should be given just enough of the correct foods so that it can realize its production potential. Feeding more than necessary can be both wasteful and uneconomical; and can lead to health problems in the livestock. The better farmer will feed at the 'optimum level' (i.e. just enough (but not more) that is need for optimum production).

Landscaping & Gardening in the Shade

Image

Shade is a valuable commodity in most gardens. When it’s hot, shade makes us feel cooler and indeed temperatures really are lower in shaded areas. In addition, shade provides a wonderful sense of relaxation.

Everyone can benefit from a garden with some shady spots.

Children will be able to play outside longer without getting sunburnt. Glare is reduced, and for many that means fewer headaches or eye strain, and the chance of skin cancers is also lessened. Even family pets benefit if they can find a shady spot to keep them cool on a hot day. In warmer climates the summer sun can be hot and relentless - shade then becomes a particularly desirable garden asset. Even in milder climates though, shaded areas makes outdoor living far more comfortable in the height of summer.
